PORVORIM

Stating that the work to repair and hotmix the Betim-Nerul road would begin in the first week of January, Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar said the Porvorim-Saligao would be hotmixed next and all roads in Saligao constituency would be hotmixed by February.

He was responding to queries regarding the poor condition of the Betim-Nerul road, which has made it difficult for motorists and pedestrians alike.

“I am fully aware about the bad condition of this road as I travel on this road everyday. I had already moved a file regarding the hotmixing of the Betim-Nerul road. The PWD has cleared this file and work estimated at Rs 3 crore has been tendered.”

“Work of repair and hotmix the Betim“Nerul road will begin in the first week of January. Later, hotmixing of the Porvorim-Saligao road will be taken up and hotmixing of all roads in Saligao constituency will be completed by February,” said Salgaonkar.

Commenting on the water shortage, the Saligao MLA admitted that the villages of Reis Magos, Nerul, Sangolda and Pilerne are located at the tail end and face acute water shortage.

“Some parts of Bardez taluka receive water from the Assonora Water Treatment Plant for 24 hours while some areas receive water for 8 to 12 hours. There is no uniformity in water supply and I had brought this to the notice of the PWD and had even told them that some villages in Saligao constituency receive water alternate days.”

“To augment water supply to the affected villages, wells and a tube well have now been dug by PWD in these areas.”

“The State government announced that a 20 MLD water treatment plant would be set up at Guirim to resolve the water scarcity of Saligao and nearby constituencies. However, the government is yet to locate land for this project. Hence, the fate of this project still hangs in the balance.”

“When the water treatment plant at Porvorim is commissioned, I would request the government to divert 5 MLD of water to Saligao constituency till the Guirim water treatment plant is set up,” said Salgaonkar.
