The Bio-diversity Management Committee of Benaulim on Monday dashed off complaints to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), State Biodiversity Management Board, besides the Police seeking their immediate attention to the sand dune that was destroyed at Benaulim beach over a week ago and to ensure its restoration.
The Bio-diversity Management Panel headed by Chairman Charles D’Silva has also invited representatives of a world organization to inspect the destroyed sand dune on Tuesday and suggest measures for its restoration.
The Benaulim Bio-diversity management committee Chairman along with members and the Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas inspected the spot and saw how the sand dune has been destroyed at the Benaulim beach. While demanding action against the culprits involved in the destruction of the sand dune, the Benaulim MLA has assured the bio-diversity management committee that he is ready to spend money from the MLA’s fund for the restoration of the sand dune.
The BMC Chairman D'Silva told The Goan that after inspection of the sand dune, he has lodged complaints with the GCZMA, State Bio-diversity Board, Colva police, besides the Benaulim Panchayat seeking their intervention and demanding action in the matter.
“The BMC has not only sought the intervention of these authorities to restore the sand dune, but to file their complaints against the owners of the property”, he said.
Charles further said he has urged the authorities to keep on hold all the permissions to the restaurants/ shacks that are coming up at the sand dune destruction site.
