The days of bunking or reaching offices beyond the official hour of work for babus and other government staff could soon be a thing of the past if a move to introduce a cent per cent biometric regime to record their daily attendance is put into practice.
A fiat issued by the General Administration Department directs all HoDs to ensure installation of biometric attendance systems in their offices to record attendance of all ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ group employees of their departments.
The directive was issued to the HoDs in a late January circular by Under Secretary (GAD) Shripad Arlekar, who mentioned that the government has observed irregularity of attendance of staff which affects the prompt delivery of service to the general public in government offices.
Arlekar also said, HoDs will have to ensure that monthly reports of the biometric attendance system are used to take disciplinary action against employees who report late or leave early and also for ‘unauthorised’ absence.
“Further a quarterly report of action taken by HoDs be submitted to the respective Secretaries to the Government,” Arlekar said in the missive to the HoDs adding that a copy of the quarterly also be sent to the GAD for the perusal of Chief Minister.
“It is therefore enjoined upon all the Heads of Departments/ Offices to abide by the aforesaid instructions and to bring to the notice of all staff who are under their administrative control,” Arlekar added in the official communication. BY GOVT ORDER
