The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday accused the BJP-led government of protecting Ajit Shankhwalkar, the main accused in the fake Excise Commissioner appointment scam, due to his alleged links with the ruling party.
AAP senior vice-president Sandesh Teleikar Dessai, in a video message, questioned why the accused had not been brought to justice despite statewide outrage. Citing media reports showing Shankhwalkar with senior police officers, he alleged possible political patronage and questioned the pace of the investigation.
“Is the BJP government protecting Ajit Shankhwalkar because he is a BJP karyakarta?” he asked, accusing Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government of shielding corrupt elements. “The BJP’s protection of the corrupt will lead to its defeat by Goans,” he said.
