With the Opposition stepping up its campaign on governance issues, the ruling BJP has begun sharpening its strategy for the 2027 Assembly elections, directing MLAs and state leaders to intensify public outreach, expedite development works and strengthen their connect with young and first-time voters.

The next three months are being viewed as crucial as the party prepares to seek a fourth consecutive term in Goa, with the leadership stressing constituency-level engagement and grassroots work to consolidate its support base.

BJP National General Secretary BL Santosh arrived in Goa on Sunday and held one-to-one meetings with MPs and MLAs in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and state unit chief Damu Naik to review election preparedness and chart the party’s course ahead of the polls.

The discussions focused on constituency-level priorities, expediting pending development works and strengthening engagement with voters. The party also plans to expand its outreach among Gen Z and young voters to influence the political narrative among a key section of the electorate.

Ticket selection

The selection of candidates for the 2027 Assembly elections also came up for discussion, with the party expected to conduct a detailed assessment before finalising tickets. A strong connect with the electorate will be a key consideration.

MLAs said the meeting focused on election preparations, constituency-level priorities and ways to improve the party’s prospects, with no discussion on a possible alliance. “With elections nearing, the meeting was about preparing for the polls and directing everyone to focus on every constituency and how to move ahead,” said MLA Govind Gaude.

MLA Michael Lobo said candidates with the strongest connect with the people would be preferred, indicating that the leadership would undertake a detailed assessment before finalising tickets.

MLA Kedar Naik said the party had discussed its election strategy, including strengthening public outreach.
