MARGAO

Senior BJP leader from Margao, Chandan Nayak, said he hopes that election authorities will remove all “unmapped” voters found during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the Margao constituency from the electoral rolls.

Thanking the Election Commission of India and the Special Observer for South Goa, Sandeep Jacques, for acting on his complaint about bogus voters, Nayak said the responsibility now lies with the Assistant Electoral Roll Officer (AERO) to complete the process.

Explaining his move, Nayak said that during his time as BJP Margao Mandal president nearly 20 years ago, he had noticed several voters listed on the rolls who were not living at the given addresses. He said the SIR process was a good chance to delete such bogus names.

Nayak said he has been informed that around 7,500 voters in Margao have been marked as “unmapped”. He added that it is now up to the AERO and the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to ensure that voters not found at their addresses are removed from the rolls. He said residents expect the BLOs to do their work properly and added that his team is closely monitoring the process.
