Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President, Sadanand Tanavade, on Saturday said the swearing-in of the new government will take place anytime after Monday but not later than Friday next week.
Tanavade said the party’s central leadership has decided that the ceremonies to install new governments in the four States which the BJP won in the recent round of assembly elections will be held on alternate days to enable national leaders to attend.
The new government will be installed in Goa any day between March 21 and 25, he said.
The BJP won 20 of the 40 seats when results of the February 14 elections to the Goa legislative assembly were declared on March 10. The party also secured the support of two Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLAs and three Independents.
Tanavade also rubbished the stance of the Opposition Congress seeking the intervention of Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on government formation and suggesting that continuing with Pramod Sawant as ‘caretaker’ Chief Minister 10 days after results as a Constitutional impasse.
“Technical formalities of constituting the new assembly and swearing-in the new MLAs before the term of the previous House ended is completed. What remains to be done is the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and ministers. We have a caretaker Chief Minister in place. So it’s not going to make much difference,” Tanavade said.
The BJP State chief also said that being the single largest party the Governor has been informed of their numbers and majority support.
He also taunted the Congress not to worry about the BJP and instead take care of themselves.
