BJP workers march to Bicholim police station
BICHOLIM
BJP workers from the Bicholim, Sanquelim and Mayem constituencies marched to the Bicholim police station seeking action against social activist Swapnil Sherlekar over his remarks against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the BJP in connection with a mega project at Karapur.
On Monday evening, a large number of BJP workers gathered at the Bicholim Police Station and submitted a memorandum to Police Inspector Vijay Rane.
Through the memorandum, they demanded that a case be immediately registered against Sherlekar and that legal action be taken.
The march was attended by BJP office-bearers and workers, including Sanquelim Mandal President Rama Naik, Bicholim Mandal President Dr Kaustubh Patnekar, North Goa BJP President Daya Karbotkar, district member Mahesh Sawant, Padmakar Malekar, Gopal Surlikar, Santosh Naik, Vishwas Chodankar, Krishna Gawas, Sanjay Naik and others.
Party leaders said BJP workers were upset over the alleged remarks made against the Chief Minister, the use of language that could affect social harmony, and the abusive comments allegedly directed at BJP workers.
They said Sherlekar was free to express his views and hold protests as a social activist, but warned that abusive remarks against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Bharatiya Janata Party would not be accepted.
BJP workers also warned that if the police failed to take immediate action, they would decide on further agitation.
Police Inspector Vijay Rane met the delegation and assured them that the matter would be properly investigated and necessary action would be taken. Memorandums were submitted from all three constituencies.
