BJP-backed sarpanchas, dys   elected at most VPs in Pernem

Former MLA Dayanand Sopte managed to get his candidates elected as sarpanchas and deputies in six of the nine panchayats in Mandrem constituency, while Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar had his candidates elected to the two top posts in Pernem constituency.

Sarpanchas and deputies affiliated to Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar were elected in other two panchayats, Keri-Terekhol and Tuem in Mandrem constituency.

After the new sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas were elected, Sopte visited the six panchayats of Morjim, Mandre, Harmal, Palye, Agarwada and Parse to congratulate the winners.

Pernem has a total of 17 panchayats which had elections to the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch.

Most of the sarpanchas and deputies were elected unopposed, with the BJP taking control of most of the panchayats, leaving three panchayats in Mandrem constituency to local MLA Jit Arolkar.

Of the 17 panchayats, 15 sarpanchas were elected unopposed while 16 of the 17 panchayats saw deputy sarpanchas being elected unopposed.

Only Parsem and Dhargal panchayat conducted elections for the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch.

Anthony Fernandes was elected unopposed at Agarwada-Chopde Panchayat, while Shilpa Naik was elected unopposed as deputy sarpanch.

Anthony Fernandes is the first Catholic sarpanch in Agarwada-Chopde Panchayat which has six other panch members, Sachin Raut, Hemant Chopdekar, Bhagirath Gaonkar, Shilpa Naik, Sangita Naik and Deepali Pravin Lingudkar.

Elsewhere, Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar’s candidates were elected as sarpanchas and deputies in nine panchayats of Pernem constituency, Dhargal, Vinorda, Poraskade, Warkhand, Torse, Korgaon, Vazri, Vinorda and Mopa.
