- Contests for the first time from Ponda constituency in 1967, winning the election and making her the first woman MLA in Goa
- In 1972, she won from Bicholim, and became the state’s first woman minister, and was allocated the education portfolio
- Becomes Goa’s first woman chief minister on August 12, 1973 after her father Dayanand Bandodkar passes away. She was CM from August 12, 1973 to June 7, 1977 and June 7 to April 27, 1979
- Loses from Bicholim in 1980, but wins in 1989 from Mayem
- In 1990, she joins Progressive Democratic Front government and was made education minister
- Wins again from Mayem in 1994, but subsequently loses in 1999
- After another loss from Mayem in 2002, she quit electoral politics
