Work at the North Goa Collectorate was disrupted for over an hour on Friday morning after an Additional Collector received an email warning of a bomb threat.
As a safety measure, the building — which includes the offices of the North Goa Collector, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Mamlatdar and others — was quickly evacuated. Police teams and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out a full search of the premises. Work resumed only after the building was declared safe.
“An email was noticed around 11:30 am, which stated that one of the Additional Collectors is under threat of a bomb. We immediately informed the police and the BDDS. They reached the spot, conducted verification of the premises and gave the go-ahead to resume work,” North Goa Collector Yashaswini B said.
Additional Collector Mahadev Araundekar said that a similar threat was reportedly received earlier at the office of the Bardez SDM.
Sources said the email came from an outlook.com account and an investigation is underway.
This incident comes just weeks after a similar bomb threat was emailed to the Goa Police headquarters on March 29, targeting the Director General of Police. That warning, which mentioned an IED attack, led to a six-hour-long search. Police are now looking into whether all three threats are connected.
