The first set of examinations under the Goa University’s new online system to dispatch exam question papers to colleges was a success, with the Bachelors of Physical Education (BPEd) students having completed their semester-end examinations on Wednesday.
Officiating principal of Don Bosco College, Panaji, Dr Cedric Silveira told The Goan that the BPEd students were amongst the first in the State to finish all their semester-end examinations under the new system.
“The first and second year BPEd students answered three papers each under the GU’s new online system of dispatching question papers. Their exams started on October 9 and concluded on October 16. The new system worked very smoothly for our BPEd exams,” Silveira said.
The question papers were sent to the college a little over an hour before the commencement of each paper, he explained. The faces of three faculty from the college, Silveira included, had been pre-registered on the computer designated for downloading the question papers, and face recognition had been enabled.
Once face recognition was done, the faculty entered a passcode which was sent to a mobile number and email registered only for this purpose. Then, the faculty downloaded the paper and printed out the copies required for the exam, in this case, 50 per exam. Prior to their exams, Silveira said that a demo had been carried out.
Don Bosco College is the only college in the State which offers BPEd.
Meanwhile, other colleges across the State are gearing up to receive question papers via this new system for their October-November semester-end exams in a few days.
The online system of dispatching question papers to colleges is being introduced by the Goa University for the first time this semester for all its affiliated colleges.
After principals were intimated of the system in September, there was apprehension amongst them about whether the new system would function smoothly or not. Principals were worried about software problems, and the amount of time it would take to print question papers for courses like Arts and Commerce which have hundreds of students answering.
However, the University has decided to go ahead
with the system, which has been successfully tried and tested in Pune University, as well as the Goa Engineering College (GEC) and Goa Medical College (GMC).
