A brawl between two groups, one from Betim and the other from Chimbel, right outside the main entrance of the Panaji police station, ended up with a youth suffering fractures in his leg in the early hours of dawn on Sunday. Police said they have booked and arrested seven persons for the clash between the two groups who kept fighting despite intervention by police personnel.
The fight took place around 6.15 am when the two groups ” the Betim one led by Devu Kawas (52) and the Chimbel group led by Yakub Wallikar (38) of Chimbel ” got into an altercation. The dispute escalated into a full-blown fight during which Kawas allegedly used a knuckle duster, while another person used pepper spray.
Members of both groups suffered injuries, with Wallikar suffering fractures to his left leg and hand. Devu Kawas, Jyoti Kawas, Roshni Kawas, Sohil Kawas belonging to one group, and Imran Gauas Kaburgi, Yakub Allabaksha Wallikar and Mubarak Sikandar Bhandari belonging to the other, have been booked and arrested, police said.
