At the moment, the village up to the Candeleira Church comes under the Carona Post Office and Mapusa Police Station and the area beyond Candeleira Church comes under the Betim Post Office and Porvorim Police Station.
“Locals in the village face hardship in trying to locate which police station or post office they come under. Whenever a person from Ecoxim rushes to Mapusa Police Station with a complaint he is directed to approach the Porvorim Police Station and vice versa,” informed Vinay Chopdekar, Pomburpa Sarpanch.
Similarly, he informed that people who apply for passports are put to untold hardship due to jurisdiction of the village divided between two post offices and two police stations. The gram sabha unanimously decided to urge the State government to bring the entire village under one post office and police station.
The locals expressed disappointment on the rise of number of unauthorized banners and hoardings in the village.
Some members questioned the panchayat whether permission was sought for the display of the banners and whether appropriate fees were paid to erect the banners/hoardings.
It was decided that every ward member would be responsible to oversee the hoisting of the banners and any unauthorized banners be removed promptly by the particular ward member. The gram sabha also resolved to issue notices to the owners who have failed to pay house tax for the last so many years.
“Our house tax registers show house numbers that have not paid house tax for many years. But when we go to the site the house is in dilapidated condition or it is locked,” the sarpanch said.
The gram sabha urged the panchayat to locate the owners of such houses and issue notices to them.
The Village Development Plan was put up for discussion in the gram sabha and was unanimously passed.
Centre urged to rehab Kashmiri Hindus
MAPUSA: The Pomburpa-Olaulim gram sabha passed a resolution urging the government to rehabilitate Kashmiri Hindus in their respective areas.
“We had received a representation from the members of the Sanathan Sanstha for the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Hindus,” Sarpanch Vinay Chopdekar said.
He said the resolution will now be forwarded to the Government of India.
The gram sabha also paid homage to the first woman chief minister of Goa, Shashikala Kakodkar who passed away on Friday.
