MARGAO
Farmers of Rachol have demanded the immediate intervention of the Salcete Mamlatdar and other authorities to plug the breach in the bund, fearing inundation of their fields and the village.
A farmer, Jezzy Oliveira, told the media that river water has started flowing into the fields following the breach since Sunday. He said the authorities, including the Mamlatdar and the district authorities, should immediately intervene and plug the breach.
Oliveira recalled that a similar breach in the bund had taken place in October last year, while lamenting that the authorities have failed to act to date.
He raised apprehensions that the breach would go out of hand if it is not repaired immediately, fearing that the fields and the village would be inundated with river water during high tide.
