An attempt was made to burgle the Navnath temple in Honda-Sattari, prompting residents to demand increased night police patrolling in the area.

According to locals, a burglar entered the temple on Thursday night and unsuccessfully tried to break open the donation box. He later moved around other parts of the temple and his movements were caught on CCTV cameras. Residents reacted with alarm when information about the incident came to light the next day.

The temple management committee inspected the temple premises and reviewed the CCTV footage to observe the burglar’s movements. The committee later confirmed that nothing of value had been stolen from the temple.

Speaking to media persons, Temple Committee President Rohidas Satardekar said such attempts to burgle properties could endanger the residents in the area. “It is surprising and concerning that even though the temple is located right near a main road, the burglar had the audacity to attempt a burglary in the temple,” said Satardekar.

“The Navnath temple has gained prominence over the past few years, with various religious and other programmes being organised. Due to the likelihood of money being present in the donation box, the burglar may have attempted to break it open.”

He and other residents have demanded increased night police patrolling in the area.
