Bus driver gets one year rap, ordered to pay compensation
A 48-year-old bus driver from Bhor, Maharashtra has been sentenced by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Pernem to undergo one year imprisonment and to pay Rs 40,000 as compensation to the victim's family in a July 2014 case of fatal accident. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 4,000.

As per the chargesheet filed by Pernem Police, the accused Chandrashekhar Ambule on the rainy night of July 11, 2014 drove a passenger bus ‘Laxmi Queen' in a rash and negligent manner on the NH-17 at Ugvem, Pernem and as he drove over to the wrong side of the road, the bus dashed an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle went under the front wheels of the bus. The accident report form of the motorcycle showed that fuel tank had deep dents on both sides. The motorcycle rider Narendra Kumbhar, who is also from Maharashtra, succumbed to injuries at GMC.
Rejecting the mining transportation rate proposed by CM Manohar Parrikar, the Dharbandora Taluka Truck Association on Thursday insisted on Rs 14 per tonne per km with diesel at market rates, threatening to block the highway on November 1 if their demand was not met by October 30.
