Bus rams bike in Verna, rider killed

A 32-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a passenger bus rammed into his two-wheeler near Fr Agnel Ashram at Verna on Sunday evening, causing the motorcycle to catch fire.

The accident occurred around 6.45 pm when a bus travelling from Margao to Vasco allegedly drove rashly and hit an oncoming motorcycle near the Santa Marble & Granite shop, Verna. The rider, Kevin Ishanti Pereira (32) of Sangargali, Belagavi, Karnataka, was thrown onto the road and suffered serious injuries. His motorcycle burst into flames and was completely gutted.

Pereira was rushed to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, in a 108 ambulance, where he was declared brought dead. His body has been kept at the SGDH morgue for further formalities. The bus driver, Jakir Hussain Shaikh (31) of Sancoale, has been booked by Verna police under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS. Further investigation is being conducted by Verna PSI Mahesh Bhomkar.

Margao police register FIR in corporate office break-in

The Margao police have registered a FIR against unknown accused person for effecting entry into the corporate office of a construction company and decamping wit cash of Rs 15,400 and a laptop worth Rs 64,000.As per the complaint lodged by the owner, the incident occurred on December 29 when the accusedperson effect entry into the Corporate Office by breaking the window and decamped with cash of Rs 15,400/- and one laptop worth Rs 64,500, all worth Rs 79,900.
