PANAJI: The stage is set for unveiling of the new investment policy, the draft of which, according to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was finalised on Wednesday.
Making the announcement at the inauguration of the two-day industry conclave being organised by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) and Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce (DITC), the Chief Minister said he would announce the new investment policy by Dussehra (September 30).
Said Parrikar, "Yesterday (Wednesday) evening, we finalised the draft for new investment policy. My attempt will be to announce the umbrella scheme by Dussehra."
Parrikar further said that, although it would be his endeavour to announce the policy by Dussehra, but logistical problems could delay the announcement by a week at most.
Sources revealed that the state government would announce the benefits under the investment policy by Dussehra. The state government used to have a number of schemes to benefit the industries, but these schemes lapsed by March 2016.
In order to promote industries, the state government will announce benefit schemes by Dussehra. Sources also revealed that a number of industries have applied for benefits at DITC, but because the benefit schemes have lapsed, their files are pending.
Earlier, a number of schemes were about tax concessions to industries. With the advent of Goods-and-Services-Tax (GST), most indirect taxes have been subsumed in GST. Therefore, these schemes will have to be modified.
At the industry conclave, the DRDO seeks to sign agreements for transfer of food technologies with entrepreneurs in Goa. Parrikar said, "Under one of the schemes, whatever patent price or royalty, a company is expected to pay to DRDO, will be paid by the government to a large extent."
Parrikar further said that he had detailed consultations with industry representatives to finalise the benefit schemes.

CM: Convert old
buses into trash
collection centre
PANAJI: While speking at the inaugural function, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar also opined that old buses could be converted into mobile garbage collection centres and also toilets.
He said, "We discard old buses in Goa by selling them as scrap. I told the waste management corporation that why don't they convert one such old bus into a mobile toilet and another into a mobile garbage collection centre."
