Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday held a Save India Save Constitution flag march in Panaji city on the occasion of Congress Foundation day.
This rally was a part of Congress rallies held throughout India on its foundation day.
Addressing party workers at Azad Maidan, opposition leader Digambar Kamat critisised the BJP government for mis-administration. He appealed to the people to stand united against the BJP-led government.
“They promised Ache Din and fooled people in 2014. They have not fulfilled their promise in the last five years. Forget about Ache Din, the day to day life of people has become difficult,” said Kamat.
Many Congress leaders spoke during the rally. All the leaders said that CAA is anti-constitutional and divisive. Congress leaders also spoke on other current and local issues like Mhadei criticising the government and the Central BJP.
Congress South Goa MP Francis Sardinha said, “Despite our opposition in Parliament, the BJP passed the Citizen Amendment Bill with brute majority.”
Our Muslim brethren has worked along with all the citizens to uplift the country and have ended up being sidelined through this CAA, he added.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar said that CAA is just to appease Hindus and polarise the society.
“Actually CAA is against poor people which include Dalits, STs, etc. This is vote bank politics and we have to unitedly oppose it with vigour,” said Chodankar.
Youth Congress president Varad Mhardolkar said that the Goa government has cheated people on the Mhadei issue.
Congress spokesperson Trajano said that CAA is against poor people of all religions.
He asked if government is claiming that Nation Register of Citizens (NRC) will not be implemented then why have there been detention centers erected in
the states?
“The National Population register is a back door entry for the implementation of NRC in the country,” D’mello alleged. Mahila ongress president Pratima Coutinho called the decisions of the BJP government as anti-people.
“Demonetisation has affected poor people and unemployment has increased in the country,” said Coutinho adding that women are unsafe in the country.
