The Pramod Sawant-led Goa Cabinet on Saturday passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years in public office as head of government.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the decision after the Cabinet meeting, describing Modi’s 25-year journey in public service as a significant milestone in the country’s political and administrative history.

Modi first assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, and has served as Prime Minister since May 26, 2014, completing 25 uninterrupted years as a head of government.

Cabinet credits Modi’s tenure with national progress

According to the resolution, the Cabinet acknowledged Modi’s contribution towards development, good governance, inclusive growth, technological transformation, social empowerment and national progress during the past quarter century.

Sawant said several landmark initiatives undertaken during Modi’s tenure were aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life, strengthening infrastructure, expanding opportunities for youth and women, empowering farmers and entrepreneurs and enhancing India’s capabilities across various sectors.

The Cabinet resolution noted that these initiatives had helped empower weaker sections of society and inspired greater confidence and national pride across the country.

Goa’s share of central assistance highlighted

It also highlighted the Centre’s support to Goa over the years, stating that the State had benefited substantially in areas such as infrastructure, connectivity, higher education, healthcare and delivery of basic services.

Sawant said Goa received assistance of around Rs 7,436 crore for infrastructure projects from the Centre. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the State received central assistance of Rs 145 crore and became the first State in the country to achieve the “Har Ghar Jal” status.

The Cabinet further pointed to the establishment of institutions of national importance in Goa, including IIT Goa and the All India Institute of Ayurveda, describing them as key contributors to the State’s progress.

In the healthcare sector, the government said advanced medical infrastructure projects worth Rs 497 crore had been developed in Goa with central assistance, including a contribution of Rs 150 crore from the Union Government. These investments have strengthened the State’s capacity to provide specialised healthcare services, it said.

Rs 32,226 crore in assistance and highway projects

The Cabinet also recorded that Goa received assistance amounting to Rs 15,590.57 crore under centrally sponsored schemes and the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment between 2014-15 and 2026-27.

Additionally, the Centre approved national highway-related projects worth Rs 16,636 crore, taking the total assistance earmarked for Goa to Rs 32,226 crore.

Sawant said the Cabinet appreciated the continued partnership between the Union and State governments in advancing Goa’s development priorities and improving the welfare and quality of life of its people.
