Insisting there was no way to negotiate on the recovery of outstanding dues of around Rs 350 crore, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has warned that government departments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), individuals or private organisations not paying their dues would face power disconnections.

“There are some people who think my actions are an eyewash, but I must tell them that this is not superficial. Whether it is PSUs, corporations or government departments, they all have to pay their power dues,” said Cabral while interacting with media persons at a safety awareness function organised by Goa Shipyard.

“All consumers in Goa have to pay electricity bills on time and the money has to be paid to the agency from other states, from where we get our electricity as electricity is not generated in Goa. We have already set a target to the electricity department to collect the outstanding dues of Rs 350 crore before December,” said Cabral.

The minister said this would be applicable to everyone, whether it is an individual or government department, PSUs, corporations, private companies or non-government

bodies.

“The recovery process will begin soon, else we will be forced to disconnect their power supply. We have guidelines laid down by Joint Electrical Regulation Commission (JERC) and they insist on recovery of outstanding dues,” said

Cabral.

“Because of the outstanding, the JERC also wants to increase tariffs for Goa and every time we promise them recovery will

be done.

If the recovery is not done, the hike in power tariff will affect local Goans and keeping in mind all this, we will go very strong on the recovery process,” said Cabral.
