Cabral: Ready to renovate Administrator of Comunidade building if handed over to govt

MARGAO
Craving for attention over the years, there’s finally a ray of hope that the long-neglected South Goa Administrator of Comunidade building will get a fresh lease of life.

There’s, however, a rider. The government is ready to repair, renovate and spruce up the building, which has been the seat of South Goa Comunidades, over the decades, on condition the building is handed over to the government.

PWD and Law Minister Nilesh Cabral, however, said the PWD will prepare the estimates for the repair and renovation work in the coming days, adding that it is then for the Comunidades to take up the repair and renovation work at their cost. He, however, hastened to add that the government is ready to take up the renovation work if the Comunidades hand over the building to the district Collector.

“We are preparing fresh estimates for the repairs, renovation and painting of the Comunidade building.  The PWD had prepared an estimate recently, which was expected to take care of only the roofing. The new estimate will take care of the repair and maintenance and painting of the entire building. We expect the estimates to be ready in the next few days,” he said.

Saying the Comunidades should contribute and arrange the funds required for the repairs and renovation, Cabal said, “If they have no funds, I am ready to do through the PWD, but they will have to hand over the building to the government. We will work out a solution to the issue.”
