The Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) on Sunday filed a complaint at the Panaji Police Station against the organisers of an event titled “Tales of Kamasutra and Christmas Celebration”, alleging that it hurts the sentiments of the Catholic community and Goan society.
The complaint, addressed to the Director General of Police, seeks the immediate arrest of organiser Swami Dhyan Sumit and action against the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh Foundation, which is said to be hosting the event. CAG President Cyril A. Fernandes submitted a three-page complaint listing alleged offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita.
Fernandes was accompanied by Vice President (South Goa) Melwyn Fernandes, Vice President (North Goa) Pelagia Pires, and life member John Nazareth.
CAG has demanded that authorities prohibit the event and initiate a criminal investigation against the foundation, organisers, and all those involved in promoting and advertising it.
The Association has sought charges under Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings), Section 302 (words intended to wound religious feelings), Section 294 (sale and dissemination of obscene material), Section 296 (obscene acts in public place), and Section 75 (sexual harassment and solicitation), along with any other applicable sections.
Fernandes said the community feels “deeply hurt and outraged” and asked police to keep CAG informed of the investigation’s progress.
