Calangute hotel owner booked for rape, cheating

Calangute Police on Tuesday booked the owner of a hotel at Calangute-Baga on charges of raping a woman after assuring to marry her.

According to Calangute Police, the incident took place in 2010, when the accused 
had promised to marry the woman.   
Police said the woman gave birth to a baby girl in 2012, but the accused failed to marry her.   
Police added that the victim also claimed that the accused had borrowed Rs 70 lakh from her, after he faced some financial difficulties and had promised to return the money. But till date, the accused 
failed to return the borrowed amount, thereby cheating the victim.   
Police said the statement of the victim was recorded in the presence of an NGO.   
Acting on the victim’s complaint, Calangute Police booked the accused under Sections 376, 493, 420 of IPC. Calangute PSI Prajit Mandrekar is investigating the case under the guidance of PI Jivba Dalvi.
