Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has expressed support for hosting the Sunburn music festival in areas where it is welcomed by the local population.
Lobo suggested that the festival, which was previously held in Candolim and later moved to Vagator, could be hosted in his constituency, hinting that it would be welcome there.
“The festival should take place in locations where people are open to it,” Lobo said.
He urged the government to consult with officials and select a suitable venue that has the necessary infrastructure, such as proper roads, to accommodate the large crowds Sunburn attracts.
“If there is only one road, it will lead to traffic jams and chaos,” he cautioned.
Lobo, representing the coastal constituency, highlighted the economic benefits of the festival, noting that it generates revenue for both the state and local businesses.
“Small tea shops and other businesses benefit from the festival,” he added, emphasizing the positive financial impact on the local community.
The Sunburn music festival, one of Asia’s largest electronic dance music (EDM) events, has been a significant source of tourism and income for Goa over the years.
However, its location remains a point of contention, with some constituencies resisting its presence due to concerns over crowd management and environmental impact.
