Calangute panchayat launches free hearse van service for villagers

MAPUSA

In a significant development to aid the community, the Calangute Panchayat has introduced a new hearse van that will be available free of cost to residents of Calangute and nearby villages.

The van, donated by Balaji Enterprise, was inaugurated in the presence of panchayat members.

Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira stated that the service is aimed at providing essential support to those in need.

“The inauguration of the new hearse van marks another milestone for the panchayat, which offers various services including a morgue and an ambulance,” he said.

Sequeira highlighted that the old hearse van was in poor condition, necessitating the replacement with a modern vehicle.

The new van, valued at approximately Rs 7.5 lakh, will be maintained by the panchayat, which will bear the costs of petrol and the driver’s salary.

“The service will be provided free of charge to ensure that every family in need can access it without financial burden,” he added, encouraging villagers to contact the panchayat for any of the available services.

Khushboo Agarwal, a representative of Balaji Enterprise, expressed pride in contributing to the community.

“We are happy to support the panchayat and society by donating this hearse van,” she said.

The panchayat also reminded villagers about the availability of a morgue and ambulance services, further emphasising their commitment to the welfare of the local population.
