The Calangute police recovered two empty bottles of cough syrup from the room of the Candolim service apartment where the accused mother checked in with her son on January 6.
The police are investigating whether she intentionally administered an overdose of the syrup to her son before smothering him with a pillow or other object.
While Suchana maintains innocence, she has been repeatedly telling the police that her son died suddenly. About the cough syrup, there’s another theory that she wanted to sedate him to avoid speaking with his father on Sunday, the day she allegedly killed her child. As per the Bengaluru family court, Venkatraman had visiting rights.
On January 7, she reportedly declined several calls by Venkatraman, finally answering one video call wherein the father-son spoke for a few minutes “ after which the child was hacked to death.
The post-mortem report has pointed out suffocation through smothering. “If her son died suddenly, why didn’t she seek immediate help or inform resort management, doctors, or an ambulance? Why did she stuff the dead body in the luggage and lied to everybody about his whereabouts? Her interrogation is crucial as it will reveal more about her intentions behind this killing,” the officer said. It has also been learnt that Suchana did not negotiate the cab fare, as she wanted to flee Goa without any hassles, and had Rs 6,000 in cash.
