Calangute to get two ambulances, new building for Candolim PHC: Minister

Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane gave 220-bedded North Goa District Hospital a miss, but visited the 12-bedded Candolim Primary Health Centre on Saturday promising two new 108 ambulances for Calangute constituency.

He also said that Candolim Primary Health Centre would get a new and modern building which will have trauma and emergency units with all other specialized facilities.   
“By end of May, two new 108 ambulances with trained paramedics will be allotted to Calangute constituency, which will be stationed one each at Calangute and Candolim,” Rane said.   
The health minister was speaking to the media during his visit to the Candolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) on Saturday. Deputy Speaker and local MLA, Michael Lobo, Director of Health Service Dr Sanjiv Dalvi, Candolim PHC in-charge Dr Brenda Pinto, GSIDC officials and others were also present.   
Rane said the health department has requisitioned 15 new 108 ambulances for the State nine of which will be received by end of May.   
He further said that two-wheeler ambulances will be launched from July onwards to deal with casualties in the tourism belt.   
“Para-medics will ride these motorcycle ambulances which can reach the accident or casualty spot within record time,” he said.   
The health minister said that government has made a provision of Rs 10 crore to reconstruct the Candolim PHC.   
“The present structure has outlived its time. A new building will be constructed by demolishing the old structure which will have many specialized facilities,” Rane said.   
“I don’t know why files are stuck in public health department, such works should have been taken up immediately,” he added.   He said work on new construction may start from September temporary repairs will be carried out on the old structure.  
 “It will be my effort to resolve any shortages, complaints in the PHC in the next two to three days so that so that people do not suffer,” he said.   The health minister said that through health department he will assist the local MLA to take forward his idea of developing his constituency.

Government to revisit health insurance scheme: Vishwajit

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said the State government would revisit the health insurance scheme to “improve” it to give maximum coverage to the people. rn“Yes, we are doing it (review the health insurance scheme)…the chief minister is already on record…Whatever needs to be modified he will look into it…” Rane said.
