The visit of the Chief Minister and the discussions with senior officials appears to have hit a sweet spot as agencies concerned have started repairing roads in Mapusa.
The PWD has completed the patch up work of the road from Mapusa Residency to Canca junction, while repair/reinstatement of road in front of Hotel Satyaheera has also been taken up by JICA.
"Initially, the agencies concerned will patch up the potholes and repair stretches that have gone bad. Hot-mixing of roads will start immediately onc
e the hot-mix plant starts by November-end," a source informed.
Besides PWD, repair of quite a few roads in the city will be taken up by JICA, who have laid the sewerage lines, and the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).
In fact, GSUDA, which has taken up various beautification works will repair some key roads in the city.
Besides undertaking patch work of the road near the fish market, GSUDA will hot-mix the road from Union Pharmacy to Mapusa Urban Coop Bank and fish market to Ajay Supermarket in Morod.
JICA will take up work on patching up of manholes on roads from court junction to North Goa District Hospital in Peddem and from Datta Mandir to Hanuman Temple in Dattawadi.
JICA will also repair roads from Hotel Usapkar to welding shop in Khorlim, in front of government high school near Natekar shop in Khorlim and from the chapel to Preeti International Hotel at Gaunsavaddo.
JICA will also hotmix two main roads - from Joao Menezes Pharmacy to Khorlim sim and from Satyaheera Hotel to old MMC.
The works on road repair will be taken up subject to weather condition and traffic permission, an official in the know said.
Since Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar's first visit to Mapusa on October 3, the core committee for Mapusa's development under the leadership of Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar met on Thursday and held a review meeting with all key officials about the works taken up in Mapusa.
"Repair of most city roads has been taken up on a war-footing. Subsequently, work on hot-mixing of the roads will be carried out," said Kavlekar.
