The Congress party has called upon the district authorities to set a mechanism in place to trim or cut down dangerous trees dotting along the highway and road sides.
A delegation of Congress comprising of South Goa District Congress chief Savio D’Silva, Everson Vales and Moreno Rebello made their presence felt at the meeting of the disaster management authority chaired by Additional Collector-II Dipak Desai at the district Collectorate.
Welcoming the decision of the district authorities to set up a team of experts to monitor the trees along the highway, the Congress said the authorities should also take the sarpanchas on the panel.
“We are happy that after the Congress had submitted a memorandum to the district Collector for the unfortunate death of the lady rider at Navelim, the authorities have initiated action. We want the authorities to put a mechanism in place so that the trees are trimmed or cut down periodically and not only during the onset of monsoons,” they said.
