CANACONA
A team from the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) and Agonda panchayat on Thursday inspected a drain infested with fish water and waste discharge at Parvem in Agonda.
The team consisting of medical officer Dr Diwakar Velipji and Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik from the CHC and Agonda Sarpanch Nilesh Pagui, Panchayat Secretary Amol K Naikgaunkar, and Ward Panch Prettal Fernandes inspected the drain near the fish vendors at Parvem.
After inspection, the team sought the removal of all wastewater pipes connected to the local drain and also warned fish vendors to stop dumping waste water in drainage, failing which strict action would be taken against them under the health act.
The fish vendors who permanently occupy the space have been accused of discharging fish waste into the drains, due to which an odour engulfs the area.
Also, a few wastewater pipes have been connected to the drains, leading to mosquito breeding sites in the area.
