Canacona councillor accused of illegal construction

CANACONA
A group of components from the Nagorcem-Palolem Comunidade have accused a Canacona councillor and his brother of an illegal construction, despite a stop-work order issued by the Administrator of Comunidades (South).
The components have demanded immediate intervention of the government to avoid law and order problems.
Addressing a news conference, the components led by a component-cum-social worker Pandurang alias Dhiraj Naik Gaunkar said despite the Administrator of Comunidades issuing a stop-work cum show cause notice, Laxman Ballapa Shet and his brother, councillor Kishor Shet, had allegedly used a JCB to clear and level land belonging to the comunidade at Mallikarjun College and ITI junction at Mastimoll, to complete a shed between Saturday and Sunday.
"After locals noticed a JCB uprooting trees and levelling the land by Laxman in the presence of his councillor brother, I alerted the comunidade of the developments and the attorney/Escrivao of Nagorcem-Palolem Comunidade visited the site and stopped the work," Naik Gaunkar said.
"However, the work resumed two days later, after which I complained to the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) chief officer and also wrote to the chief minister, chief secretary, revenue minister, collector, deputy collector, mamlatdar and administrator of Comunidade."
"The work was again stopped, but by that time, the land was cleared and levelled and iron poles were erected. Thereafter, administrator of Comunidade visited the site and on the spot served a stop-work cum show cause to Laximan on Saturday. Later in the night, the shade with iron sheets was completed between Saturday and Sunday," he said.
Stating that the councillor is threatening the components for opposing the illegality, the components have also warned that if authorities fail to stop such highhanded activity, there could be a law and order problem.
When contacted, Laxman Shet denied the involvement of his brother in the activity.
"I had only erected a temporary shed to repair the existing shed on the land in my possession for decades," said Laxman and he denied infringing on the stop work-cum-show cause notice issued by the Comunidade administrator.
"I had only taken up the so-called stop-work-cum-show-cause notice, which doesn't mention anything about the shed, for which I had taken a repair permission from the CMC. My councillor brother has nothing to do with it," insisted Laxman, while responding to allegations of some comunidade components.
