CANACONA:
A man from Canacona was duped to the tune of Rs 3.65 lakh on the pretext of renewal of his tourism licenses in Canacona.
According to Canacona police, Sarvanand Konkonkar of Kindlem-Canacona received WhatsApp messages on his mobile between October 8 and October 12 from an unknown person impersonating/representing himself as a representative from the tourism department.
The imposter reportedly informed Kankonkar through two different WhatsApp accounts about the renewal of his tourism license.
Believing the person to be genuine, Kankonkar, who reportedly jointly operates some tourism huts and restaurants, followed his instructions and transferred a total sum of Rs 3,65,000 through multiple Google Pay transactions, before realising the tourism department imposter has cheated and caused a fraud on him.
Canaocna police registered the complaint against the unknown accused under Sections 318 (4), 319 (2) of BNS and further investigation is being conducted by Canacona PSI Babu Dessai.
