CANACONA
The Canacona Municipal Council’s (CMC) office has been temporarily shifted to the unused Dr Dhillon Hospital near Char-Rasta in Canacona and began functioning from Wednesday.
The CMC is constructing a two-storeyed administrative-cum-commercial building by demolishing the existing Portuguese era building at Chaudi town.
During construction work, the CMC’s office will function from the rented premises at the unused Dr Dhillon Hospital in Char-Rasta.
CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello on Wednesday appealed to residents to bear the inconvenience, if any, during this period.
“Some may encounter an inconvenience, but our temporary office is barely 1 km away in the municipality. Unless we move out of our old building, we cannot construct the new project and the new building is expected to be ready within one-and-half years,” said Rebello.
The CMC chairperson stated that the office is presently functioning with only three staff, as the chief officer and nine other regular staff have been deputed on election duty.
“It's a huge challenge to provide service to people with such a meagre staff and I will request the collector to send back one staff from each section, to enable us to run the municipality.”
“The accounts, taxation and other administrative works are the most affected and we fear that people will not get proper service,” Rebello added.
