Canacona records highest 1-day spike of 17 Covid cases

 Canacona recorded itshighest single-day spike of 17 new cases on Friday, taking the active Covidcount to 72 and an overall total to 145 in the taluka.

Canacona Health Officer Dr Vandana Desai informed 17 positivecases were detected on Friday, the highest so far in a single day sincecoronavirus was first reported in the taluka.

“The active cases are 72 at present after a few recoveries andthe taluka’s overall total is now 145, up from 128 cases on Thursday,” said DrDesai.

Incidentally, most cases pertain to family members and orcontacts of those who had tested positive.

“There is an increase of cases in Agonda, where the virusimported from other talukas have now affected more members of two families.Besides, there is also an increase of infections in Poinguinim, Loliem andShristhal,” said a source from CHC.

According to a doctor at CHC Canacona, there are around 40patients undergoing home quarantine in the taluka, while the other 32 patientsare presently at various Covid care centres, including the Covid hospital atMargao.

According to sources, a youth who earlier in the day haddistributed face shields with the logo of an upcoming politician in the talukahas also tested Covid positive, worrying many residents and establishments inCanacona.

In another incident, a computer technician who had attended toclients in various parts of the taluka went for a test after he had a fever andtested positive, informed sources.
