The Canacona Municipal Council has overhauled the entire plant. The baling machine is now in working mode and a specialist has been put on the job to dismantle the defunct old plant.
According to CMC Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri, on Friday the entire municipal council staff and elected representatives were at work at the plant site.
“As per plans chalked out by SWM Chairman Fernandes with directions from the chief minister, our administrative staff which includes the chief officer, market officer, engineer, garbage supervisor headed by Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar, Pundalik Gaokar and other municipal staff and our labourers were led to Dumane garbage plant and they worked till late evening,” informed Dhuri.
Dhuri informed that as per the responsibilities given to different persons listed by Fernandes, most of the crucial works were completed on a single day.
A JCB was requisitioned and most of the garbage was cleared.
Residents lauded the works undertaken by the council.
Goenkar, who has been closely following the garbage issue, said: “Really, it’s a very appreciable work done by the administrative staff and the people.”
“The active step taken by CMC towards clean Canacona mission, Mission Dumane Plant, is in full power and now I can say Dominic’s visit to Canacona and then our visit to Saligao plant was very much helpful,” said Goenkar president Jack Fernandes.
