The Canacona police on Tuesday arrested a Canacona youth on charges of rape following a complaint from the survivor. The 25-year-old identified as Pravin Gaonkar allegedly impersonated a police sub-inspector and developed physical relations with the victim over the last five years.
“The youth befriended the victim and convinced her that he was a police sub-inspector with the State Police force. She was thereafter sexually assaulted and extorted by him on different occasions,” an officer told The Goan quoting the victim’s complaint copy.
The accused allegedly extorted around Rs 65,000 by blackmailing to leak her objectionable photos on online platforms. “He clicked objectionable photos of the woman and threatened to leak it online. Being unemployed, he has extorted money from her since 2017 year when they were introduced to each other,” he said.
The Canacona police have registered a case of rape, impersonation, and extortion against the local, who was remanded to five days of police custody by the local court.
