Students and teachers from various schools, local youth, and sports enthusiasts from across Canacona taluka participated in the ‘Run for Unity’ organised by the Sports Authority of Goa at Char Rasta, Canacona, to mark National Unity Day (October 31) and to spread the message of national integration and physical fitness.
The chief guest at the event was Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, while others present on the occasion included Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Laxuman Pagui, Councillor Hemant Naik Gaonkar, Taluka Sports Organiser Rupesh Tawadkar, and several physical education teachers from different schools across the taluka.
The ‘Run for Unity’ began in the morning with great enthusiasm, and participants from different schools and local youth gathered to pay tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — the architect of India’s political integration.
The run, which symbolised the spirit of unity, discipline, and determination, not only promoted physical fitness but also aimed to remind the younger generation of the importance of national unity and harmony in today’s times.
Participants took a pledge to uphold the values of national integration, mutual respect, and social harmony.
