Canconkars must defeat BJP-backed candidates to stop family raj: Vijai

CANACONA

Advising Canconcars to introspect on developments in the State, Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai appealed to the people to defeat BJP-sponsored candidates in panchayat elections and elect people with an independent mindset to bring new ideas for their village developments.

Sardesai spoke to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to the Shri Mallikarjun Temple on Shravan Somvar.

“Canconcars are revolutionary people and they have the chance to lead the way to throw away BJP's evil mentality of ruling Goa as a family property, by defeating BJP-sponsored candidates in panchayat elections,” said Sardesai.

“This government is not giving any powers to the panchayats as deemed in the 73rd Amendment Act and reduced it to a toothless body. The BJP government is now conducting elections to further loot this toothless body, and to achieve it, they are fielding their family to contest.”

“They are involving their family because they think Goa is their personal property. That's why I appeal to the highly cultured and clever Canconcars to defeat BJP-backed candidates,” said Sardesai.

"He claimed that the BJP has time and again admitted they function on directives from the Centre. The ones sitting here are only glorified clerks and we don't want that. We want local self-bodies as an independent body and those elected should be independent, free to work independently for the benefit of the village. Canconcars have the potential to show the rest of the Goenkars, that Goans cannot be taken for granted,” Sardesai added.
