PANAJI

In a shocking discovery, alert citizens in the capital city found a cannabis (ganja) plant growing in the ornamental growth along specially designed wedges beautifying footpaths refurbished as part of the Smart City projects in the St Inez on Saturday.

Goa Police's Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) officials were called in by the citizens.

The plant was then uprooted and taken away by the ANC team of officials who said they will send it for further analysis.

Opposition politicians wasted no time in taking aim at the government citing the episode.

GPCC vice-president Sunil Khawthankar took to sarcasm on his handle on micro-blogging site 'X' (formerly Twitter) to poke fun at the State government.

"@BJP4Goa to now make Goa Swayampurna in Ganja? As Ganja growing in Panaji #smartcity planters is alarming. This not only proves how easily accessible and available the drugs are threatening the safety of our youth but also how failed the law & order of @BJP4Goa Government is," Kauthankar said on X.
