The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has proposed a Rs 4 crore “Respite, Play & Enrichment Centre for Neurodivergent Children and Young Adults” at Caranzalem garden meant to provide inclusive spaces for children, young adults, and their families.

The plans include sensory-friendly play areas, art and music rooms, sensory gardens, respite care facilities, and life skills training zones for older youth.

Officials said the centre will be designed with Goan architectural elements to create a welcoming environment. The facility is intended to support neurodivergent individuals while offering families a safe and enriching space.

CCP has floated a tender to appoint a design consultant with a proposed consultancy fee of Rs 20 lakh for a blueprint that balances accessibility, aesthetics, and functionality.

The initiative marks one of the first municipal-level projects in Goa focused on neurodivergent needs and reflects growing awareness of inclusive infrastructure and the importance of community support systems.

Caranzalem Garden was chosen for its location and open space with the site expected to allow for both structured activities and free play.

Officials said the centre will serve as a model for future projects across the State with emphasis on combining respite care with enrichment so neurodivergent youth have opportunities to learn, play, and grow in a safe environment.

The proposal is currently at the consultancy stage and once designs are finalised, CCP will move toward execution, making Caranzalem Garden a hub for inclusive community care, officials said.
