The village panchayat of Cavelossim has handed over a cheque and cash to Natividade Fernandes, whose house was severely damaged when a banyan tree and two coconut trees fell on it due to strong winds.
Handing over the cheque, Sarpanch Dixon Vaz said the family had a miraculous escape as the incident occurred when the occupants were in the house but were in another room.
Fire and rescue personnel joined the operation along with the labourers deployed by the panchayat.
“The Panchayat has provided relief to the family under the disaster management fund,” Dixon said.
