In a filmy style chase, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (ACB-CBI) arrested an officer from the Zonal Accounts Office while allegedly accepting a bribe to clear pending bills.
The officer, identified as Atul Wani, was caught red-handed by the ACB-CBI team when he was allegedly accepting the bribe to expedite clearing bill/s of a company pending since six months.
It is learnt that during the raid near the Central Library at Patto-Panaji, he jumped out of his car but was caught after a 50-100 mtrs chase. Cash to the tune of lakhs of rupees was seized from his car. The CBI conducted searches at Wani’s office and residence thereafter.
The company providing security and housekeeping services, had complained to the central agency based on which the trap was laid.
