Union Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Naik said that the central schemes have not received the expected response in Goa, after a District-level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting held in Panaji.
“We held review of every central scheme at the meeting and all the required efforts are being made to reach out to every Goan through these schemes. Every bank has tried its bit to implement the schemes, but this has not happened as per our expectation. Hopefully, with our joint efforts, conditions will improve in the next quarter,” said Naik.
The meeting reviewed the performance of the banks in North Goa during the period from April 1 to December 31, 2016. The meeting was attended by 40 out of 56 banks in North Goa, which included nationalised banks, co-operative banks and those from the private sector too.
“We reviewed the performance of the banks in North District during April 1 to Dec 31, 2016 in the North Goa District. Representatives of NABARD and RBI were the main controllers of the meeting who reviewed the performance,” said Lead District Manager (North Goa) Prakash Kamble.
Speaking about the issues discussed during the meeting, he said, “Issues discussed were mainly relating to the priority sector advances, new initiatives of the government, mudra loan, start-up India, stand-up India, among others”, he said.
When asked about the response for these schemes in Goa, Kamble said, “The response from Goa for these schemes is not very good as there are no takers. There is very low response and branches are hunting for good customers and beneficiaries for their credit too.”
To improve the scenario, he said, “We are holding camps and propagating the schemes through lead banks, as well as RBI and NABARD.”
Bad response to central schemes also resulted in overall loans outstanding falling in North Goa by Rs 363.28 crore. The figure of overall outstanding loans stood at Rs 9,912.26 crore on December 31, 2016, which was Rs 363.28 crore less than the figure of Rs 10,275.54 crore exactly a year ago.
Outstanding loans to weaker sections also showed a marginal drop in North Goa to Rs 309.8 crore as on December 31, 2016 compared to Rs 310.71 crore a year ago.
Meanwhile, loans to women showed a strong growth, as they increased from Rs 1,165.79 crore as on December 31, 2015 to Rs 1,486.27 crore.
