Traffic chaos reigned supreme as the authorities closed the Rawanfond bridge on Monday to facilitate the installation of girder.
As per the scheduled chalked out the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, the road closure at Rawanfond was to start from Monday April 20 from 7.30 am up to 3.30 pm.
However, while the authorities completed the installation of one girder, the second girder was lying on the road, awaiting installation. Resultantly, the movement of traffic on the road which was supposed to resume at 3.30 pm could not take place. Till late in the evening, all the heavy traffic was entering the city to take the flyover to head to the Rawanfond junction via the Margao railway station road. The pedestrian cum two-wheeler foot bridge at the Old station road, connecting the city to Calconda area, saw heavy movement of two-wheelers since Monday morning.
When The Goan contacted Margao Traffic Cell In-charge, PI Sanjeev Dalvi to shed light on the delay in resuming traffic on the Rawanfond bridge on Monday evening, he conceded that the scheduled drawn up by the GSIDC has gone haywire.
“Only one girder could be installed on the newly-built bridge, while the second girder is still lying on the road”, he said.
The Police officer said the GSIDC is moving the district authorities to completely shut traffic on the Rawanfond bridge till the completion of the girder installation work.
