CANACONA
In a surprise move, the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona, screened Rokda market labourers for malaria, hypertension, and diabetes in Canacona on last week.
According to CHC sources, the screening was conducted for the hundreds of labourers assembling outside the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) Bus-Stand complex.
A team from CHC, led by Medical Officers Dr. Diwakarji Velip and Dr. Mamta, and consisting of IEC Officer Nilima Bhagat, Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik, LHV Sr. Siya, Health Staff Bro. Manoj, Jitendra, Vikas, Nilesh Komarpant, Nurses Jayaraksha, Varsha, Pooja, Dilkush, Shekhar, and Fayaz, was present.
Incidentally, Canacona Rokda market, where hundreds of daily wage workers, mostly migrants, assemble, offering skilled and unskilled labor, consists of over 200 persons making their early morning presence outside KTC Bus Stand, Chaudi, every morning.
CHC’s move assumes significance, especially after several residents raised apprehensions about the transmission of vector-borne diseases like malaria, among others. There is widespread fear among the residents that migrants unknowingly become carriers of a few vector-borne diseases.
