The Chicalim deputy sarpanch has reacted angrily over claims by the Navy that illegal construction activities is being undertaken in property near the naval compound wall in Bogmalo.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Chicalim Deputy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav said the property in question was a part of around 17,000 sq mtrs land owned by him and he was developing small plots in the area legally with all valid permission from relevant authorities.
“The property was bought from a Vasco-based business man and a 15-mtr ODP road heading between Dabolim and Bogmalo passes through the land dividing the big land into two parts, of which one section of land was bounded by the Naval compound wall.”
“Since I was only cleaning the section of the area near the naval compound and levelling the ground, there was no hill cutting or construction activities as suggested by the navy quoted in media reports,” clarified Yadav.
“Since I am developing my own private plot, there was no need for approvals from the navy. A board displaying all permissions was put up at the site and some people are trying to politically target me and tarnish my image and also show the Chicalim panchayat in bad light.”
Yadav has said the naval authorities can buy or acquire the property near the naval compound if they have any objection on development in the area.
“Why should the navy have a problem if I am cleaning my private land and plotting my own land after taking provisional development permission from PDA and Panchayat? I am not doing any development in the naval area and I am only levelling my land in plots.”
“Now if the navy says that it is a no-development zone or no-development should be done in the area, then I want to request them to buy the land and we are willing and more than happy to offer the land.”
“The navy can acquire the land next to its compound and freeze the area so that there is no further issues pertaining to security,” said Yadav.
