OLD GOA
All’s well that ends well. And that was the case with the Chimbel Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), as committee members made suggestions and changes to the plan, before agreeing to give their nod to the plan, on the occasion of the special gram sabha held on Republic Day.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday, some committee members had raised apprehensions as they said that they were not taken into confidence while preparing the plan, and had asked that they be allowed to study it so as to allow them to fine tune it.
Among the changes made, Tukaram Kunkolkar said that the suggestion made for providing job reservation for unemployed youth at the IT Park should be removed as he said there’s no question of jobs when the people are opposed to the project.
“If the government wants to go ahead with the project by bypassing the will of the people, let it do it. But, the panchayat should not send a signal to the government that they are willing to bow down,” Kunkolkar stated.
Several other developmental proposals were also included, as it was for the first time in many years that a mutual understanding among the panchayat authorities and the villagers was quite visible.
However, before the meeting could end, Govind Shirodkar advised the committee members and the panchayat authorities to see to it that the plan is executed to the maximum.
Later, it was decided to submit the plan before the end of this month so that works below Rs 2 lakh could be sanctioned.
Secretary Lency Fernandes stated that a final plan would be prepared by incorporating the suggestion and changes, and later the same would be put up at an extraordinary meeting where it would be finalised and sent to the concerned authorities.
Earlier, sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar unfurled the national flag in the presence of Union HS headmaster Arun Nagvenkar and others.
