In less than a week, a second fire at the proposed Chimbel IT Park land came to light, with villagers and activists rushing to the site on Monday afternoon.
It may be recalled that in a similar incident a portion of the IT Park land was set ablaze on January 9, with villagers alleging the hand of the IT Park supporters behind the incident.
This time too, the villagers believed the incident to be the handiwork of people supporting the project.
When The Goan visited the area, fires were noticed at numerous places with the huge one located very close to Chimbel lake.
Rudolf Fernandes, who was also present at the site, lambasted the government for trying to impose the IT Park on the people.
“An area of almost one lakh sqmts was set on fire today. The persons who are behind the incident are backed by a minister,” he alleged and stated that the IT Park project is not for the benefit of the locals, but for their own gains.
“They are only interested in grabbing the government land which is located nearby,” Fernandes further alleged.
